Skagit County’s First Public Pickleball Courts!
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America and, together with Mount Vernon Pickleball Club and the City of Mount Vernon Parks & Enrichment Services, we’ve created an opportunity for people in our area to discover and enjoy this new, and very fun game.
The dedicated courts have all new net systems with barrier fencing between each court to improve safety for those playing this fast paced game. MVPF believes this project is an important addition to the recreational activities available in Mount Vernon as this sport can be played by virtually all ages and all skill levels. In addition, Mount Vernon Pickleball Club’s organized recreational and competitive play events at these new facilities will also help encourage health, enjoyment, and social engagement throughout the greater community.
What Is Pickleball?
The sport was invented near Seattle on Bainbridge Island in 1965. It has a net like tennis, a ball like a Wiffle ball, a surface area the size of badminton and is played indoor on a wood floor or outdoor on a tennis type surface. The smaller playing area makes Pickleball an exciting game that can be played by people of all skills and abilities.
